Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka decamped Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga team in protest against the DP who is sponsoring his rival in the Kisii gubernatorial seat.

Ruto is said to be grooming flamboyant and youthful politician Don Bosco Gichana to succeed Governor James Ogwae in a tight gubernatorial race which has attracted a host of other politicians including the powerhouse Interior CS Fred Matiangi.

Other faces angling to succeed Ongwae are former Senator Chris Obure, currently serving as the Chief Administrative Secretary in the roads ministry, Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati , a self-imposed  Gusii spokesman and Joash Maangi who is the current Deputy governor.

Also in the race are Senator Janet Ong’era who is the area Women representative and a local business lady Rachael Otundo who unsuccessfully run for the Charibari Chache constituency in the last general elections.

Onyonka made the declaration at Isecha village in Manga when he condoled with the family of Dr. David Ombati, the personal doctor to the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

In his about-turn political stance, the Ford Kenya MP said his association with the DP Ruto was increasingly making him irrelevant on the ground.

“I left ‘Tanga Tanga’ movement after I noticed that my supporters will disown me. The movement is also not development oriented and comprises of greedy leaders who are power hungry,” he stated.
