Arturo Vidal has backed teammate Alexis Sanchez after the winger ended his goal drought in Chile win over Japan in the Copa America.
Chile registered a 4-0 win over Japan in their Group C match of the tourney as Alexis Sanchez grabbed his first goal since January. Erick Pulgar opened the scoring in the 41st minute for the two-time defending Copa America champions before Eduardo Vargas added the second after the restart of the second half. Sanchez scored the third before providing an assist for Vargas to complete a double and a 4-0 win for Chile. And Vidal feels the former Arsenal man needed his goal after a “difficult” season with Manchester United.
“Alexis needed the goal. He had a difficult year and this gives him confidence,” he said.
Chile will take on Ecuador in the second match of the tournament on Saturday 22nd.
