Raila bid to reunite Nyong’o, Outa – Weekly Citizen

It would appear that early campaigns have gripped Kisumu county as jostling for the coveted seat currently held by Anyang Nyong’o gets into top gear.

Area senator Fred Outa has already declared that he will seek to unseat Governor Nyong’o in 2022. Weekly Citizen has information that ODM leader Raila Odinga has held meetings with the two in a bid to reunite them under the ODM course.

Outa was a key member in Nyong’o’s campaign bandwagon in 2017, playing an integral part during the announcement of the governor as the ODM party nomination winner at Thurdibuoro Secondary School in Nyakach. The move almost cost him his seat since he was seen as a betrayer.

“This time round, I will not announce anyone. I’ve done this for some time and have decided to wear the coat myself. I must go with the girl,” Outa said at Nyangande Primary School during a prize-giving ceremony for Kabonyo Kanyagwal in Nyando constituency. He later presided over a fundraiser at Wang’ang’a Secondary School in Awasi.

The senator promised to let Nyong’o deliver his promises, saying Raila had directed him to minimise politicking.

Outa and Nyong’o fell out after the governor allegedly reneged on a pre-election deal. Both were together in Team Kali in which they were to share county positions on a 50-50 basis. But the senator said he was holding no grudge against Nyong’o following their fallout.

It is said that Raila has held two meetings with the governor and senator attended by nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga and East Africa and Regional Development chief administrative secretary Ken Obura.

Obura has been attending funerals in Nyando and Kisumu Central, his former political base and his current relationship with Raila has left tongues wagging.

Former Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma is also seen to be digging in ahead of the 2022 polls. Hezron Otieno Mac’Obewa, who comes from Kisumu, Kujulu and Kano clans just like Outa is being favoured in the region as governor aspirant compared to the senator.

Ranguma who spoke at the funeral of Silas Owiti, the founder of Voice of Salvation and Healing Church, in Nyando Kisumu county raised hopes among his supporters. Political differences between Nyong’o and the senator are detrimental to development of the county.

Nyando MP Jared Okello has told the senator to take his allegations of misuse of county funds and his opposition to some of the projects being initiated to the senate instead of attacking the governor in public gatherings and through the media.

Okello who does not see eye-to-eye with the senator due to political differences that arose over the Nyando constituency ODM primaries in 2013 and 2017 says Outa should take the issues concerning the use of county finances before the county public accounts and investment committee headed by Homa Bay senator Moses Kajwang’ so that Nyong’o can be summoned instead of condemning him publicly.

Outa recently engaged in a war of words with the county government over plans to construct a Sh25million house for governor Nyong’o.

Pundits have been alluding that businessman Mac’Obewa would also be making a stab at gubernatorial seat as the park gets crowded. He made at an attempt at the last polls but lost ultimately. But others feel that Joshua Oron should throw in the gauntlet as a compromise candidate.

Members of the greater Kano community recently visited Nyong’o at his Ratta home in order to protest over the representation of the clan in his administration.
