– The new Nike Merlin ball for next season has been launched
– The ball boasts of special features that could reportedly result in more goals
– The ball also has special panels and will start out with a pink colour scheme
Nike is reportedly keen to increase last season’s record-breaking 1,072 goals in the Premier League with a special Nike Merlin ball that will be used next season.
The ball, sporting incredible features including four fuse-welded panels to provide a bigger “sweet pot” will be used exclusively in the English Premier League.
MailSport reportsd the ball was produced to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Nike’s partnership with the Premier League.
The first version will feature a striking pink theme, with different colour versions expected to be produced as the season progresses.
According to Nike Global Equipment GM, Kieran Ronan, the different colours on the ball are designed to be eye-catching to players to help identify its spin and speed.
“The Premier League is often described as the most dynamic league in the world and we wanted to create a ball that reflects this,” he said.
The ball will also feature an “urban grip” to supplement its grip on the ground during any weather conditions.
Its launch will denote a move away from the ordinary Ordem line of balls which have been in use for close to five years now.
