Investigations to unearth sh 400 million gold saga has taken a new twist as more names are being dropped including those of powerful faces in the country.
This comes as president Uhuru Kenyatta issued strict instructions to DCI George Kinoti and other investigators to move with speed and solve the gold puzzle once and for all since it was giving the country a bad image.
Names of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi and Flamboyant businessman cum politician Don Bosco Gichana have prominently featured in the fraudulent transactions that involves prominent personalities from the United Arab Emirates.
Flamboyant Businessman Jared Otieno is being held by police for swindling foreigners in a gold export business deal gone sour.
Other youthful and flamboyant City businessmen cum politician suspected to be in illegal gold trade are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Starahe constituency aspirant billionaire Steve Mbogo and Joseph Waswa, the infamous President Uhuru Kenyatta imposter.
A damning dossier christened ‘’Report of Zandi’’, paints Wetangula as the ringleader of a mindboggling racket that ripped off the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
During the early stages of the deal, Wetangula flew to Dubai on December 15, 2018 for a meeting and floating his former position as Kenyan foreign Affairs minister made an assurance to the effect that the deal would smoothly sail.
Weekly Citizen has established that Kenyan land was used as a launching pad in the racket and hosted several meetings between the legislator and one Mr. Ali Zandi, the Sheikh’s nephew and a representative of Zlivia, a gold trading company based in Dubai.
On September 25, 2018 the scheme reached its climax when a Kenyan gold trader boldly promised to ship 5.1 tons of gold from Ndande Tribe in DRC to Kenya by road.
Two days later, the consignment would allegedly be detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. This prompted Mr Zandi, to seek for help from the Ford Kenya party leader’s help.
This prompted Wetangula to book an urgent flight to Dubai and while in Dubai, on December 15, 2018 the former Foreign Affairs Minister in an attempt to win trust of his victims invoked his high-profile network in Kenya that would see the goods immediately released.
Highly placed sources said the assurance impressed Sheikh who on December 24, 2018 flew to the capital of Nairobi, booked at the Serena Hotel for four days during which he was taken to a warehouse and shown the allegedly detained cargo.
Zaheer Jhanda and another individual identified as a top police officer, Michael Waweru accompanied Sheikh to have a view of the cargo at the Warehouse.
Bungoma Senator Wetangula would later reach the Zlivia company representative to slash initial demand from sh200 million to sh70 million on promise the goods would be shipped to Dubai within three days.
On January 21, Zandi was booked into Villa Rosa Kempinski hotel where he demanded to meet another senior government official.
However drama ensued when Zandi was later blindfolded and whisked to a safe house which was heavily guarded by Administration Police Officers only to shown what he instantly dismissed as fake gold.
The name of Interior CS Fred Matiangi was dropped in the deal to make it more convincing.
All said and done the key player is Zaheer Jhanda who dropped Matiang’i name in the deal with Amisi bringing Wetangula on board.
Jhanda is from Kisii and close to Patrick Osero, an aide to DP William Ruto.
He is also close to Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi. He vied for Nyaribare Chache constituency seat but lost to Richard Tongi.
