President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended KDF chief Samson Mwathethe’s term for one more year as earlier reported by your favorite Weekly Citizen.
Multiple reliable sources within statehouse and KDF stated that the move is aimed at giving new police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai humble time to settle in the office before the Chief Defense Forces exists.
Former Chief of general staff Julius Karangi now chairman of National Social Security Fund and comptroller of statehouse Kinuthia Mbugua who served as a former commandant of AP during Kibaki era and now key security advisors of Uhuru brokered the extension of Mwathethe.
Prior to the announcement Weekly Citizen had reported plans by the President to extend the term of the KDF chief which was to officially expire on April 17th this year

He replaced Julius Karangi from Kenya Airforce on April 17, 2015.
In a statement, Uhuru also promoted Adan Kancharo to lieutenant general, Joseph Kivunzi, Jonah Mwangi, Albert Kiprop, George Nganga, Mohamed Badi, Said Farah and Martin Ong’oyi to Major General.
Several colonels were also promoted to brigadier.
Appointments made were George Owinow to deputy force commander of Amisom, Ngewa Mukala to managing director of Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation and Rashid Elmi to International Peace Support Training Centre as director.
