Kakamega MCA on conning spree – Weekly Citizen

An MCA from Malava subcounty in Kakamega is on the spot for allegedly conning his voters of their hard earned cash through proxies in pretext that they will be connected with electricity.
Kelvin Mahelo the Butali/Chegulo ward is having sleepless nights and finding it difficult to explain how individuals posing as county officials accompanied by Kenya Power officers managed to collect more than Sh1 million from households.
The individuals who claimed to have been sent by the county government to access where two transformers were to be erected in the ward are said to have been demanding from as low as Sh100 from every household as some parted with more than Sh10,000 with the promise of being connected within one month. Now it is over six months since then.
The county government of Kakamega has rolled out a programme of lighting up homes in the rural areas where each ward of the 60 in the county will benefit with four transformers in the five years but it is fully funded and no money should be collected towards the same.
Led by one Mike Angatia, the residents are now demanding that Mahelo put in place plans to have them refunded all the money collected than refunding only those who demand for it, adding that he should call a public baraza to establish the exact number of individuals who were conned.
This is after it was established that Mahelo had refunded one individual whose money was taken after he demanded for it through a Whatsapp forum.
Angatia called on investigating agency to investigate the act and those involved to be brought to book.
