Harambee Starlets forward launches Foundation

Harambee Starlets and F.C. Ramat HaSharon forward Esse Mbeyu Akida has launched her foundation in her native Kilifi County.

The mercurial striker who has crowned the 2016 Kilifi County heroine while speaking to Futaa said her aim for the Foundation was to give back to a community that has given her so much and encourage the youths who are finding it hard to realize their dreams.

“I am a product of help and it was only noble that after the strides I have made, I lift the hands of others too. There is a lot of lost hope among the youths in Kilifi and this Foundation will aim to lift them up in ensuring that they keep hope alive in whatever they dream to do,” she said.

Akida said she didn’t have any specifics in the things she will do but promised to be involved in projects that would empower her community.

“There is a lot in the pipeline that I can’t divulge now but I want to be involved in a project that will uplift everyone around my community. I don’t want to go deep into specifics but the future plan is to have many youths get involved in activities that might improve their livelihood,” Akida added.

The striker who is in her offseason scored Kenya’s first goal in the Africa Women Cup of Nations and is a product of Moving The Goalpost (MTG) which is based in Kilifi.
