Eye-brows as Ruto skips Ethiopian President State House function – Weekly Citizen


Tongues have been set wagging after Deputy President William Ruto conspicuously missed a meeting at the State House when Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde visited the country.

It was President Uhuru Kenyatta and his wife Margret Kenyatta who were at the State House to receive his Ethiopian counterpart.

In his capacity as the second in command, Ruto’s presence during the courtesy call by the Ethiopian President was significant in terms of forging development fronts and cementing relationship between the two countries.

He however chose to limit himself to his Karen officeR where he inked sh 10 billion deal with World Bank to boost projects in the arid regions.

The mega project which is a joint collaboration between Kenya and the World Bank comes days after the DP’s visit to Turkana County.

At State House, President Uhuru and her visitor discussed a wide range of matters of mutual interest to the two nations key among them being ongoing engagements aimed at deepening diplomatic and bilateral ties between the neighbouring countries.

Present were Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, Cabinet Secretaries Amb. Monica Juma (Foreign Affairs), Amb. Ukur Yattani (Labour and Social Protection), Amb. Amina Mohamed (Sports, Culture and Heritage), Amb. Rachel Omamo (Defence) and Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Catherine Mwangi.

Others were Ambassadors Marta Eugenia Ruiz of Costa Rica, Elizabeth Ines Taylor Jay of Colombia and High Commissioner Fransisca-Ashietey Odunton of Ghana.

None of cabinet secretaries allied to Ruto was spotted at the function
