Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha will come face to face with Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General Wilson Sossion after they differed over the rolled out plan for Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to replace the 8-4-4 system.
The two will meet during the 44th Kenya Secondary Schools Heads [KESSHA] annual national conference which has been moved from the traditional Wild Water Centre to the Kenya School of Revenue Administration [KESRA] ground along the Mombasa, Malindi Road in Nyali constituency, Mombasa county.
They have never met face to face apart from exchanging words through the media over the controversial new curriculum after 91,000 teachers underwent some training for the curriculum amid protest.
The government rolled out the new curriculum to lay the foundation that will see the country transit from the 8-4-4 to the 2-6-3-3-3 education system, which will be a Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
A section of stakeholders led by Sossion, including legislators, accused the government of forcing the system on Kenyans because it lacks public participation before being implemented.
According to KESSHA tentative program availed to media houses, this year’s 44th annual delegates conference will be held next month, a week after the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka will preside over the official opening of the ceremony on June 11 after Education Cabinet Secretary Magoha making his welcome remarks.
National Chairman of KESSHA, Indimuli Kahi, Group Chief Executive Officer/MD ofKCB, Mr. Joshua Oigara and
Teachers Service Commission [TSC] chairperson, Lydia Nzomo are listed to make their remarks before the opening ceremony.
This year’s theme is Quality Education in the Context of 100 percent Transition with delegates to start arriving in the coastal city on June 7 for the one-week annual meeting.
The key speaker on the first day will be Director of Secondary and Tertiary education Mr. Paul Kibet with 8,000 principals expected to attend.
The Knut boss is listed to speak two days after the official opening on Thursday a day to the end of the annual conference.
KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori will be a speaker a day after the official opening during the week-long delegates conference.
The famous Prof. PLO Lumumba is listed to speak on the closing day before CS Magoha makes his closing remarks on Friday.
The annual delegates forum will be the first since Magoha was appointed and elevated to take over from then Education CS Amina Mohamed who was moved to sports docket.
